Rohan has Autism and Verbal Apraxia

Rohan was 2 years old when we found out that he has Autism and a year later he was also diagnosed with severe Verbal Apraxia. That answered all those questions we have been stressing ourselves with; why doesn't he speak yet, why was he delayed in walking, didn't play with his toys, wouldn't interact with us or his younger sister and spend whole day watching out the window. Rohan turned 4 on May 19th, 2012.

Son-Rise Program

After numerous therapies, alternative treatments and stressful 2 years of fainting hope, we found the Son-Rise program. This program is based on a non-judgmental, accepting and loving attitude and we are running this program with the help of our lovely volunteers. Now, instead of telling Rohan to play the right way we join him in his activities. He reciprocates back by interacting with us and letting us into his mysteriously wonderful world of Autism. Instead of watching out the window or spinning toys whole day, now Rohan craves for interaction and is a joy to be around. Rohan's severe Verbal Apraxia is keeping him from making sounds or words, but we are more hopeful now than ever before that he will overcome his challenges with the help of Son-Rise and intensive speech therapy.

Speech Therapy

Not that Rohan doesn't have anything to say, it's that he can't say. Rohan needs help with training his face muscles and jaw movements to help him form sounds. We are hoping to accomplish this by providing him with PROMPT and Beckman's Stretches. We know that Rohan can benefit from intensive speech therapy and we are exhausting our personal funds and raising funds to get him that.

Treatments and Diet

Rohan is undergoing NAET and Homeopathic treatments to help him in his journey through Autism. He requires Gluten and Casein Free products which are 2-3 times as expensive as regular foods. We intend to schedule frequent Son-Rise out-reach sessions and plan to take Rohan for Son-Rise intensive program which will greatly benefit him in accelerating his progress.
